How to be a better programmer

How to be a better programmerI have been working with software developers for more than 15 years. If you ask me this question 10 years ago I would probably have said that what really sets good programmers apart from others is the hours they spend in their spare time learning new technologies and frameworks , while spending hundreds of hours on personal projects. that they were not going anywhere and that they only undertook in order to improve ...

Even though it is true that programming in your free time you become a better software professional , my vision has changed over time and today is different.

Many times, in websites for developers like this, we put a lot of emphasis on aspects such as continuous training, technical specialization, being up to date on technologies, knowing how to choose the appropriate tool for each type of project, etc ... but we do not put the Focus on other aspects that we take for granted.

Therefore, a few weeks ago I decided to do a small survey of 10 senior programmers working in my office, asking them the following question:

In a sector as competitive and stressful as programming, you might expect senior interviewed interviewers to tell you that they spend a lot of time learning new things for fear of being left behind by the push of technology and younger programmers, and not They do much more. However, computer engineering salary everyone stressed the importance of having hobbies and interests beyond programming that help you disconnect and that, if they could go back in time, they would have dedicated more time to these hobbies from an earlier age, since They are escape routes to isolate yourself from pressure and stress.

Obviously this article is based on the opinions of my ten colleagues, but we can conclude that there are a series of common responses that revolve around the same idea: take care of yourself .
